hey guys. i want to put a small lift on my 2WD. myabe 2-3" and put larger tires on. my dad doesnt want me to, because he thinks if it has bigger tires on it, a garage wont work on it if i need something done to the truck. he says it needs to have the standard tires on it to have it serviced. is that right? or could i put some bigger tires on? thanks

nothing personal, not trying to dis your dad but i do believe that he blowing smoke up your butt, does it tickle? not to make fun or nothing, but do you get out that much? i ask this because there has to be lifted trucks where you're at, and if so, you gotta realize that not everybody is working on their own stuff. my advice to you since you obviously live at home under his roof, is to wait until you move out to put the lift on. unless you feel like telling your dad he's full of shit and doing it anyway. but i would suggest you have ammo to back up your statement, like something in writing from a couple of local shops. other than that good luck. also ask him, in a respectful way, if trucks weren't ment to be lifted, why do they make kits for them and why do they make bigger tires for them ;missingteeth;

i obviously do have lifted trucks where i live and lots of people dont work on their own, i just wanted to make sure i was thinking the right way about the situation. i did go to the garage where my dad takes his car and asked the mechanic. so now i do have some ammo to use against my dad. thanks for your help. (by the way, my dad is a good guy, hes just very opinionated.)

just got a clutch replaced in a 1982 Toyota LandCruiser. has 4" suspension lift with 33x12.50/15 tires ...... about 4" bigger than what was on it stock.

youre probly right gotmud. my next question, is what size tires can i put on it if i get like a 3" lift? my stock tires are p225/70r15. so like, 31x10.50r15?

thats an 01? 31's will work fine with 3" of lift. just if you do it then do it right. use a suspension lift. the only advatage to body lift is bigger tires. there is a guy around here running a K5 blazer with 6 inches of body lift ....... i call it the big gay.

id much rather have a suspension lift, but they are really expensive. is there anyplace i can get a chep suspension lift?

Not really worth it for a 2wd.

Getting your rig serviced won't be a problem, but if your rig is a street rig (assuming since it's 2wd) why bother, you're only going to succeed in making it slower and less fuel efficient.
