Need some advice please. I have a 2000 Ranger 3.0L V6 M50D 5 Speed. I am having some transmission problems.

Shifts into 1st - 2nd - grinds and won't go into 3rd, goes into 4th than 5th. If it does going into 3rd than it grinds or won't go into 1-2 & 4. Lately the clutch has to be let all the way out and sometimes it feels as if something pops in the clutch pedal after it is all the way out. Tried locating another transmission without buying a new one but have had no luck. So I will probably have to rebuild it. One person told me that a hub was probably bad, I called Ford and said that I needed a hub for 3rd and 4th and they said I had to purchase hub and sleeve assembly with synchronizer and it was 298.00 for 3 and 4th gear.Anyone have any other ideas on what might be my transmission problem or where I can get a good kit that includes hubs too. Lost and need help.

i highly recommend a junkyard box in this case. the M5OD is a very common trans and they rarely fail and you can probably get hold of one for under $200.

Still need advice for 3.0L M5OD Transmsiion

Sure the M5OD is a common transmission, however it came from a 3.0L engine and only another 3.0L engine M5OD transmission will fit. These are not common where I live. I have tried everywhere with in a 300 mile radius to get one. So that is why I will probably have to rebuild it.

even buying a junkyard trans. from a major junkyard and having it shipped to your house will likely be cheaper then having yours rebuilt. the 3.0 is a very common engine, someone is bound to have one somewhere.

its your call, but my vote is still junkyard trans.

I was able to locate three transmissions, One cost 450.00 with no guarantee in Indianapolis Indiana, one with a 90 guarantee but was 700.00 + 175.00 shipping from Chicago , and one that the owner wanted 400.00 and 134.00 to ship from New Jersey. All in all the 3.0 5 speed has not been a common transmission for me to find. I even tried import car junk yards for the Mazda b3000 transmission, but had no luck.
