What black knob ?? Where ??? What are you talking about ?? :icon_confused:

why would you want one ?

So the company that makes them can make one modulator to fit a variety of different applications.
You're supposed to set the amount of vacuum needed for your application and go.
Its not a "knob", Its a set screw.

All green stripe Ford modulators are adjustable. You just stick a screwdriver in the end and turn it left or right. IIRC, left makes the trans downshift sooner. Left also causes more wear, acording to the guy at the trans shop that sold me my modulator.

Adjusting a modulator will make a trans shift early or late and can cause harsh shifts or if backed off far enough can cause soft shifts. The modulator controls line pressure in reference to vacuum applied.

Yes, a poor mans version of the shift kits available.
My C4 Mustang, circa 1968, shifts real hard.
And when manually shifting it really cuts down on the time between gears.
Haven't broke the transmission yet.

so does it control downshifting or the 1-2 shift point and btw i alreddy got the jr. kit in it

On a A4LD the main downshifting is controlled by the kick down cable...modulator will change the shift points...the more you screw the screw(or knob) in the later the shift points.
