Found a good deal on a solid side canopy, need it for sleeping when hunting so i need ventilation.

Has anyone ever added a side vent like the ones on cargo trailers?

Put in a solar powered exhaust fan like the RVers have. Great air movement!

According to some DIY house fixing radio show I was listening to the other day they are the way to go for houses too.

I've seen white and also the clear ones. I would definitely go with the clear ones to add additional light. I've also considered solar powered fans for the home attic. Need to read up on the volume of air moved, first.

I would be more concerned with water entering from a roof vent as opposed to a side vent.

I dont have much experiance with rv stuff, how would these oldup to branches and whatnot on tighter trails?

Well, anything is liable to get damaged in the woods, being low profile, or not. There is nothing safe and it is just the nature of trails and the backwoods. If you break something, you fix it and keep on keeping on!
