adding D-rings or shackles to stock bumper

If I were to modify my front bumper to attach D-rings or shackles to the brackets, would the brackets be strong enough? My idea is to cut out a little piece out of the bumper so I can weld a mount directly to the bumper bracket and attach D-rings or shackles. What do you guys think? My other thought was to replace the plastic under the bumper and replace it with a metal bar with mount that bolt to the same place the bumper does and mount the D-rings or shackles to the bar kinda like what 85_Ranger4x4 did to his.

Isn't that bracket 1/8" thick? I don't think it's suited for pulling. I'd make a nice, heavy duty bracket out of 1/4" or 5/16" plate.

I guess I'll modify my idea by making a crossmember that sits behind the bumper and mounts to the frame with the bumper. Then mounting the D-rings through the bumper to the crossmember.
