Add a fuse for a new accessory

I am adding an accessory to my 04 Ranger and the mfg requires that it be fused. How big of a hassle is it to add a fuse in one of the unused spaces in the battery junction box under the hood?

The biggest pain is typically getting the original fuse block out so you have access to both sides. All honesty, I learned many many years ago not to mess much with the fuseblock other than changing fuses because the stock harness is formed and bound to fit just right. Moving it, with the way they have them bound up is typically an easy way of breaking other wires.

My advice would be to use an inline fuse on the power wire of your accessory.

Due to a serious case of IP (impatient procrastination), I acted before you responded instead of the other way around and found first hand how right you both are. Although breaking wires was not a problem, cramped quarters and lack of a doner box to rob of fuse connector/terminal doodads was. Soooo hello Wally World for a $1.23 Bussman in line fuse holder. Thanks for your input. Next time I'll wait for it.

If you plan on adding more accesories and subsequently adding more fuses at the same time, I'd suggest getting an accessory fuse block. I'll be running a 12 ATC/ATM fuse block on my truck whenever I get off my butt and start wiring all my accessories again.

+1, I added a 4 fuse block. Only I used the bigger fuses to keep them the same with the rest of my truck.

good...i looooooove dealing with them and all their stuff is waaaaay cheaper and better quality than what can be had at an autoparts store. I stocked my electrical toolbox with all their stuff.

If you wire, its REALLLLY easy to spend a couple hundred on an asston of materials!
