Adapting wheels to the ranger

I have found a couple sets of wheels for a great price that I think would look good on my '92 2wd, but all would need adapting. Has anyone done any of the following successfully to the large hub rangers? I know a number of folks have adapted FWD wheels and spacers would be required.


2006 Escape wheels, 16x7, 45mm offset, 67.1mm bore.

2006 Ranger wheels, 16x7, Unknown specs

2011 Jeep Patriot, 17x6.5, 40mm offset, 67.1mm bore

I really want a set of 200-2009 15x7 Ranger Chrome D Windows, but I haven't seen a set of those locally in the last year or two.

Part of my challenge is that whatever I do has to tuck in side the fender wells.

Visualizing them on my reg cab 92, my favorite of the 3 are likely the jeep wheels, but anything with a machined face gets some extra points with me.

My 04 Ranger came with the middle wheels when I bought it new. No spacers needed, I think you'd find the Escape wheels had too much offset and might need spacers.

2wd Rangers through '97 are small hub - 63.5mm; 4wd and '98+ are large hub - 70.5mm.

1992 stock wheels, 14x5, 12mm offset, 63.5mm bore

Spacers would be required it run the Jeep wheels - problem isn't staying within wheel wells, its tire contacting hard bits of stuff to the inside. I would get 1.25"/35mm ones with 63.5mm hub size (I believe would be the more common Mustang ones). Then, if you are really anal, run 63.5 to 67.1 rings on wheel side. If you could find a 35mm spacer with 63.5mm inner and 67.1 outer it would be perfect but that might be custom. And custom comes with custom price.

Aside: It is entirely possible to swap in '98+ coil spring hub/rotors if you also do the '95-97 dual piston caliper upgrade at same time. Then you need to get a shop to turn the 70.5mm spacers down to 67.1mm on wheel side to run Escape rims
 
I think 2004 jeep wrangler uses the same bolt pattern as the 90-95 rangers. I bought mine new from a tire shop when I increased my overall tire diameter by 2in. they fit without changing the suspension, but you can't load the bed very much if you don't.
 
Great info. One other concern with any of them is getting the center caps on.
 
Also, thanks for the clarification on the hub size. I thought the older trucks was bigger than that.
 
Yes, Similar years e.g. 87-95 Wrangler YJ rims fit on '83-97 Rangers while '97-06 Wrangler TJ rims fit on '98+ Rangers (but Ranger rims don't fit on Wranglers). They do pull the wheels in ~1/2" side.

87-95 Wrangler YJ rims 15x7, 25mm offset, 67.1mm bore
'97-06 Wrangler TJ rims 15x7, 25mm offset, 71.5mm bore
That 1mm difference prevents the Jeep TJ boys from bolting on Ranger rims.
All are 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern.

Ranger rims clear the center caps. Assuming your run spacers to get wheels back to correct track, you don't have any issues with center caps on Escape or Patriot rims. 1/2" spacer on Wrangler rims is probably touch & go.

When I fixed a front hub on my daughter's '98 Ranger and Cdn. Tire only had the older one in, we compared the 2 and decided, we were going to NAPA to get the right one as the difference was very noticeable.
