Well, not really accidental. In 2014 I needed a small truck as I was renovating a house I'd just bought in Vero Beach, Fl. Knowing nothing about them and had simple needs; manual transmission, small engine, and running.
The second one I saw was this sad 95 Ranger. Sporting a taudry spray job over the original teal, 165K on the clock, the AC didn't work, the steering column had a solid rattle, echoed by another one from the exhaust. It did start right up, blew no blue smoke from the pipe, and shifted and ran well except for a pull to the right under braking.
None of that would prevent it from serving the purpose and for 2K it was mine. A month later the house was livable, and the Ranger sat in the garage for 5 months. When I drove down to avoid the winter, the little truck started right up. It kept doing that for the next four years and I became pretty fond of it.
When I had the opportunity to drive it north with the company of a friend driving an RV I decided why not. It never missed a beat and has been in the Toronto area ever since. It hasn't seen a salty road, rebuilt calipers and pads brought the brakes back into health, and it's been a great little runner, serving as a truck when I need one and has only seen about 1K a year.
A few things are accumulating that have to be dealt with; getting a manual. a leaking power steering pump and a leaking gas line are at the top of the list, so I've joined the forum to see what I can learn.
On the personal side I'm retired and my main interest is vintage motorcycles though I do have a '63 Ranchero that I've repowered lurking in the garage.
Cheers,
Brock
