so i have an 88 supercab 2x4 5speed
and i just bought it about 3 weeks ago,
when i bought it was running quite well but i hadnt driven it more then once
3 weeks later i cant drive down my street without the acceleration just being a bitch on me, ill be in 3rd gear and itll rock alittle bit then my gas pedal just goes limp practically and i have to floor it to get anything into the engine.
ill down shift till i stop, either restart the truck or just let it idle a minute
then ill be able to drive agian.
it started doing this once a day, then twice a day, then every time i drive it,
now i have to pull over 3-4 times every time i go down the street.

i just replaced the oil and oil filter, threw some aquafoam in the tank and oil, and i got a fresshhh tank of gas. i have a fuel filter thatll go in tomorrow,
but beyond that, im not sure what to do. a buddy said it could be low compression which from my understanding, i cant afford to fix

any help would be appreciated, ill answer any question that i can

Does the pedal physically go limp or are you trying to turn a phrase?

It sounds to me like the oxygen sensor is on it's way out. From your description the issue has to be electrical/electronic because otherwise killing the engine and starting it back up wouldn't help.

yeah limp wasnt the word, it still provides resistance, but as i step on it, nothing will happen untill the pedal is all the way pressed in, then the truck will jolt forward and continue to accelerate, then ill let off the pedal and restart the process.

im a bit of a truck/car novice
i see your point about the electrical, but i can also get the truck running again by pulling over and idling for a minute.

it would also help to mention i have about 190kmiles and the check engine comes on about 5 minutes into every drive

^^ there's your sign, pull your trouble codes and come back with what you find. Get the engine up to temp and run a KOER test, too.

That right there, that is like going to the doctor, telling him you are pale and feel dizzy but not mentioning that you got shot in the leg the day before.

excuse my ignorance, but what is a KOER test?
and will a part store or auto shop perform the diagnostic reading for free?
i might have a buddy with an obd2 reader.(thats what i want yeah?)

hopefully tomorrow i can come back with some codes.
i went out and bought the o2 sensor, and will be doing that tomorrow along with the fuel filter and a general tune up

ok im reading that i dont need the obd2 thing.
i dont think im capable (confident is the right word) enough to safely to the EEC-IV jumping myself.
so ill wait till tomorrow for my buddy and all the other shit were doing.

Yeah, OBDII started in 95/96. Your 88 won't be OBDII compliant.
