Hey I took my car into Econo Lube today as I know the owner. he test the entire system which took about an hour. After he saids all is fine and gave me a check list that shows all is fine. He said he had to manually start the compressure becuase it was getting no power to it and he does not know why.

So my question is everything is fine except it blows but not cold air. I checked my swith which I found two of them. I figure that one or both is bad. could tjis be correct. Please advice. I need you guys help as I already check the control switch in the cab and all is fine. thks

If your friend cannot diagnose why the compressor is not running, I would be suspect of his other diagnosis/conclusions. No cold air could be as simple as not having enough refrigerant. Take it to a a/c shop as evidently you do not have the ability to diagnose yourself, and no one here can point to a specific cause without more information.:)shady

The most likely cause is the low refrigerant pressure switch, mounted on the receiver/dryer. Your buddy likely jumpered it to make the compressor run for the testing. It is cheap and replaceable without discharging the refrigerant. Just screw it out and install the new one. You can test it by removing its coonnector and jumpering the connector pins with a paper clip. If that works, you are either very low on refrigerant (unlikely based on "the test") or simply have a bad "cycling switch", also called low pressure switch.

I must agree that your friend's skills are lacking.

well I hear ya. But I will say that their was no refrigerant in so he added a pound and manually tested it and saw all is good and the compressor and everything else is working. He just stated their was no power going directly their as that is why he had to manually test it.

Oh no their not lacking their more scamming sounds like. He knows what he is doing as he is not a direct friend of mine. He the type that the local auto parts store would say heh go see Joey and tell him Tim sent ya. He will hook you up. Im no dummie when it comes to mechanics as I have stripped torn down and put together high end bmws/mercedes. So Im pretty mechanically inclined and when he told me it would be $89 more bucks It was then I knew something was up. I already knew the switch was bad and that it needed replaced just did not know which switch. Thanks guys for your help.

question.

you have 2- swithes; 1- that comes off the compressor a nd the other off a vavle pipe next to the radiator. which swith is too be replaced? and testing it do I take each end of the paper clip and stick it in each side of the switch or 1 end in the switch and the other in the fitting i pulled it off of? Thks in advance for everything. I also assum the dealer would be the best place to buy switch? RIGHT. WHAT IS IT CALLED?

On a 1994-up there another switch on the high pressure side that could be faulty as well.

yea i notice this switch this evening when i went out to the truck. it is located on the passenger side close to the winshield washer resevoir. i took it off and just to look then sprayed some electronic parts cleaner in the contacts on both the swtch and plug. went driving and notice cold air and turn up to ac and the max button and GUESS WHAT AC was ice cold. WTF seems someone tried to rip me off. NOT!!! Thks guys for your help.
