Any one ever installed factory ac from a doner vehicle ?Whats the difficulity rating ?.

I'd give it a solid 6 out of 10. If you don't have the proper tools to vacuum and refill the system then 11 out of 10.

Assuming it is your '91...

Getting the evap housing off can be a fight, one stud on the bottom goes into the passenger side FYI so don't look for it on the engine side.

Then it is mainly down to wiring and slapping parts on. Will have to pull the radiator to get the condenser installed. Get a new o-ring kit.

Also assuming that this is your '91:

You can remove an entire AC system from a Ranger, at least up to 1994, maybe later, without opening it. It is a LOT of work and requires disassembling the evap housing under the hood, moving a bunch of wiring, removing the radiator, fan, passenger side inner wheel well. You have to be very careful not to damage anything...it's kinda like trying to stuff several angry cats into three bags at the same time.

I did that on my '92 Explorer with my '94 Explorer as a donor and my old '89 Ranger with a different '94 Explorer donor. Both of them had AC to begin with, it was just broken R12 systems that I replaced.

If your truck did NOT come with air, and you are open to buying new parts, I would suggest just buying everything new except the evap/heater housing, compressor bracket and the compressor wiring harness which are junkyard/donor items. Once you have it all installed you will need to add a switch to power the compressor off the donor harness since your heater controls will not have an AC button nor is your dash harness wired for one.

No specifics? What vehicle you got, and what donor vehicle?
My 91 ranger is what I want to put ac in I thought I would keep my eye open for s 89-92 ranger as a donor so it would be a direct bolt on .I just was wondering if anyone attempted the swap ?

I removed mine from my 93 without opening the system. It can be done. Just not a really easy job. If you were closer, I could make you a deal on all parts except compressor bracket and wiring. Would be best to replace o-rings since there seems to be a small leak somewhere.

To reach some of the fasteners for the evaporator housing.

Wow sounds like a total pain in the ass . Thanks 4 the info !

The inner wheel well doesn't have to come out at all. You can reach those evap housing fasteners from underneath. It's definitely NOT easy, but I've done it more than once.

+1

It is not fun but possible provided you don't tear studs off the firewall due to rust.

Bodylift FTW in this case...
