Strange question for you guys. Recently having several things repaired on the 2001 ranger we have found things missing under the hood! When we first got the truck back we found they had failed to replace the two bolts holding the fan shroud in place so had to go back and of course the "tech" had them on his little cart..ha ha how funny! Took it back after a week and a half on Monday and got it back Tuesday with the issue still not fixed and more bs from the shop. Anyway we originally had the water pump replaced and they replaced the tensioner pully as well. My question is in order to do that work would they have needed to remove that AC compressor because upon inspection we noticed that the compressor only has 3 bolts in it when there are four holes so did they once again remove the bolt and not put it back?? also when under the truck the line from the AC to the accumulator is held to the frame by a bolt that goes through this little plate with a thing attached to the hose to hold it well the NUT is missing off of that bolt also, so would they have needed to remove all of that to do the work they did and in reinspecting it to find a still existent coolant leak??:bsflag::bsflag:

Find another shop....you might be able to get the bolts and hardware off a junked ranger if the first shop doesn't have it. But beyond fixing their mistakes I would not have them look deeper into it.

i'm with 97ranger find a new shop.

I'd at least ask the current shop to not let that particular guy work on your truck.

You can go to the junk yard and look for the hardware you need, or just try to match stuff up at the hardware store.

I really can't see the need to remove the compressor to do a water pump though. Although from the rest of the story that's about the level of intelligence I'd expect from this guy.

FWIW the most common place for the 4.0 (I am assuming that's your engine from the rest of the questions) to leak coolant is at the thermostat housing, which is right above the water pump, and can make the leak look like it's coming from the pump.

the only problem there is that there is no guarantee that the shop will honor that request.. i know this because there are alot of shops around here that would not honor a request like that....

I can't speak for other shops, because I don't deal with other shops. I do know that at my shop we do what we can to honor special requests about who does and doesn't work on a given car.

my point is that you really never know if they will honor request or not. with that being said it boils down to if you trust them to continue to work on your truck... I wouldn't

adsm08 if i was to take my truck to your shop (however unlikely) i would trust your work even though we have never met face to face because i can see the dedication and willingness to help here on trs.
