How do I tell if my 1990 Super Cab 2.9l has ABS? It has the 7.5" rear end and 9" rear brakes. It was built Oct 1989.

Thanks.

You look for wheel speed sensors.

is there an abs light that illuminates when you first turn the key on without cranking?

Hank has the easiest method :) and if it is true to how my 97 is, unless the previous owner meticulously fixed it everytime it went bad, your abs light is probably on full time. or burned out.

you can also take a look at the top of your pumpkin for the abs sensor on the rear axle.

I don't think Ford did very many full 4 wheel ABS in the early 90s, but Rear ABS was fairly common.

Thanks all. Right now my Ranger is at the shop getting a bed swap. I'll check it out when I get it back next week.

The reason I asked is that I just bought a 1991 Ranger 8.8" rear end to swap in and the wrecking yard told me it has ABS.

if your truck doesn't have ABS, just leave the sensor in the new axle and tie off the wire to it somewhere. you should be good to go.

they all had the sensor in the rear axle after '87 or '88 I believe, I don't think it was possible to get one without rear ABS... I don't think front ABS came in until '94 at the earliest
