there was a pretty long discussion about this not to long ago. look at the old threads in this forum. you will see what the consensus was from us.

If you are routinely tripping ABS, there is either something wrong with the truck or the driver. Disabling the ABS is the wrong direction.

If you DID disable the ABS, rather than skip around, you would slide in a straight line into whatever was in front of you.

If you're tripping it on a soft surface, you're driving too fast for conditions.

Under certain circumstances you want ABS off or disabled, as it dramatically increases stopping distances which can be very dangerous.

For example...having ABS enabled on an offroading truck is a bad idea, as you're dealing with hill climbs, loose gravel, and deep mud. It's very difficult to stop an ABS truck when descending a steep hill with loose gravel or deep mud.

Many winter accidents occur when people can't stop in time, and ABS increases stopping distances in deep snow. This would be another scenario where you'd want it disabled.

People who have been trained on non-ABS vehicles instinctively let off the pedal many times when ABS kicks in, and while incorrect, it can be a tough habit to break. Also, those who have driven an ABS car all their life and hop into a non-ABS can find themselves in trouble when they go to rely on ABS.

Remember, ABS has a net effect of 0 on safety.

dont get rid of your abs, the kid who owned my truck before me did that and i havent gotten around to fixing it 2 (friggin years later), now during the winter no matter where i go i have to be in 4wd if theres even an inch of snow on the ground or my front tires lock up and i dont want to find the ending of a slide at the wrong time

Yeah, I disconnected my faulty rear ABS module about three weeks ago. Well, actually I took it apart and removed all of the guts so the fluid could flow straight through since the mechanism was suck in the closed position and I had no rear brakes at all. I looked online and a re-manufactured module is about $160 without the core. I assume they won't take my core since it is merely a hull of its former self. I have rear brakes now but I would rather return it to the way it is supposed to work, plus make those damn lights in the dash turn off. Look for me in the junkyard.

+1 for Evan
ABS can be real s**t on snow, but on summer road ABS can be good. Here in Canada many people put the system off on winter after they can't stop at a stop sight.

when i am going down a rough loose gravel hill my abs always kicks in. thats why i want to ditch it. is there any way to make it less sensitive at least
