ABS + Brake Light On - Fluid Level OK

2007 FX4. Title says most of it .. ABS light and Brake Warning Light came on the other day. Braking performance seems just fine. Fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir is fine. I have a half decent scan tool (Ancel), and I get "communication failed" when trying to connect to the ABS module. Do I have a bad ABS module? No other DTC's related to wheel speed sensors, etc.

Yup. And it looks clean, so there should be no issue with the connection on the parking brake switch. ABS Light + Brake Light are both on, not just the brake light.

A few months later, here is an update:

Fuse #20 in the smart junction box was blown. I find that if I leave the ABS Module unplugged, the fuse remains intact and my turn signals/reverse lights work fine.

I tested the wiring harness pins and all seems normal - the fuse #20 (hot in run) pin is not shorted to ground or anything like that. While The harness is unplugged, it gives me 12V in run and 0V when the key is off. Neither pin of any of the front and rear ABS sensors are not shorted to ground. The brake position switch is 0V normally and 12V when the brake pedal is depressed. The always hot circuits give me 12V as expected.

I replaced the ABS Module entirely with one from eBay. Still blows fuse #20 when the module is plugged in and the car is started.

I know that this fuse sometimes blows related to shifting an auto trans, but I have a manual transmission.
