New to this forum, recently bought a 2000 Ford Ranger V6 3.0l 2WD and I have an ABS and Brake light on. I did some checking and there are no front axle speed sensors and I already replaced the VSS on the rear differential. When I start the truck, no lights are on but as soon as I step on the brake both lights come on. It's also throwing a P0500 code, any idea what i should do next?

Have you checked fluid level?

ABS Module, had same issue R&Rd and it went away. Mine also started after brake job. Might check for air in unit 1st.

Where would the ABS module be located? I'm new to doing mechanic work. Pictures would help

on my 94 its on the frame driver side. Autozone shows them for around $75 look it up so you know what it is and then see if its under the cab. Sorry cant tell ya where yours is. Maybe someone else will.

The p0500 is the speed sensor. The one in the side of the transmission. It controls the speedometer. I've never seen that cause an ABS. Mil request but can't rule it out either. It's always best to fix known trouble codes before you try to diagnose a problem like ABS. If the speed sensor which will be your output speed sensor doesn't correct it then I would have the module tested.
