This may seem a strange question to some..but I can't find online any reference to how much room there may be in a first Gen ranger/B2 at the cowling for the use of cylinder head studs VS bolts...In other words anyone with first hand experience with changing heads "in-frame"...using studs?..I am building an engine for use in a B2..and will naturally want to be able to pull the head w/o removing the engine etc....should the need arise..

i doubt the head studs would stick up anymore than an inch or so past the face of the head

I appreciate that input but

what I'm concerned about is the lifting the head above the studs when pulling it...you understand that however far the studs stick up above the block deck...it will have to be vertically lifted above...to allow for removal..

We tip the motor forward by unhooking the trans mount and jacking up a few inches, then you can slide it up.Are you going to shave your head over 40?we shave our heads 60-70 and still run stock head bolts.Of course if you are turboing and going for some big boost, then I understand but even then a lot of guys are using stock bolts.
