about a lift

i am going to do a simple 3 inch spacer lift on my 01 xlt 3.0 ext.cab 2wd short bed, mainly because i cant stand to have a stock vehicle and bills need to come first so im being a little cheap. i have read that i need after market upper control arms to do 2.5" or higher, i would like to know if i need to change them or if i can keep the stock ones even if its just good enough to run for a short period of time until i have more money. im not doing any heavy off roading at the moment. Also i read that the 4x4 shocks will work for some small lifts i would like to know if they will work for this or is 3" to much for those.

Just get lift spindles.

i dont have the money right now to do a spindle lift....but i did find out that the 4x4 shocks should work. now just for the upper control arms, can i use the stock ones or do i need to get new ones and if i need new ones does anyone kno where i can get them for a reasonable price i really dont want to spend 500$ on them.
