I have an A4LD built to Explorer specs. Just recently it started having trouble shifting. In the morning, it will not shift and takes a couple of full throttle pulls to get it to shift. After that it works just fine. Any ideas or is it headed to the shop?

replace the vacuum modulator, its cheap and will rule that out, other then that, adjust the bands, and change the oil and filter screen.

did you adjust the gear shift cable when installing the trans? i have heard if its out of adjustment, it can be "in between" gears even tho the dash indicator says its in drive

The oil and filter have been changed within the last 3k miles or so. The fluid on the dipstick is clean. The trans hasent been out in a long time and has the linkage not a cable.

Well this sounds like the Valve body to me,

your problem is low main control pressure (leak)

valve body gaskets/seperator plate are common for blowing out gasket materal and or warpping.

loose VB would cause leaking, when temp goes up the VB and seperator plate swell and reduce the leak.

and also the small check balls in the VB could be gitting stuck, when the pressure spikes(full throttle pulls) the check balls become disloged, and shifts near normal.

Hmmmm looks like I have a couple things to check!
