yep not the other way around......

Have
1991 Explorer A4LD

Have
1986 B2 with 2.9L & mitsu trans

I want to put the A4LD in the B2.....

I only have the trans and convertor, no flexplate, no starter, no bolts, no spacer....

Will the 4.0L flexplate interchange along with the bolts and spacer work on the 2.9L and i'll just get a auto starter from a b2 with an A4LD at the junk yard.

I believe it to be a 145 manual trans......hows the length compare to the A4LD for driveshafts.

it has no overdrive so no worries on the 3-4 shift.....the write-up does not help me on the interchangeability of the Auto trans parts......i already read through it before posting.

The flexplate, spacer, bolts, and blockplate will interchange between 2.9's and 4.0's. The 4.0 blockplate looks a little different than a 2.9, but it will fit.

The fm145 is about 2.5 inches shorter than an a4ld, so the front shaft will need to be lengthened, and rear shortened. The tranny crossmember will also need to be moved.

What do you mean 'it has no overdrive'?

I bought my 91 a little over 2 years ago......and it has NEVER shifted, nor attempted to shift into overdrive. I had the pan off when i first bought it but never thought to look at the solenoids etc while it was off to make sure they were plugged in. I probably put 30k on the trans with never having a problem other then the gas mileage saved from the overdrive. I replaced it two-three months back with another A4LD that had working overdrive. I never had a check engine light or any other issues ever with the trans. We are replacing the Mitsu in the 86 for the A4LD cause the driver is more comfortable with an Auto. And it really is a trail truck only for the most part so the no overdrive isn't a concern.

Even with out the overdrive and my explorer on 33's i was getting 12-14 mpg from it.

While doing the swap were gonna replace the D28 with a 4.10 D35 and the rear with an explorer 8.8
