hello, i have a 4wd ranger w/ a4ld on it, question is: is there an m50dr1 that will bolt up to a 4wd and still use the transfer case? im not familiar w/ this swap and wanted to know if there is a style of m50d that will bolt up to the 4wd, like theres a 2wd and 4wd drive version of the a4ld, ive seen over and over that the m50d is the preferred tranny and have been recommended it over and over, want to do it, just wanted to know b4 i go looking for a tranny and find out its only for a 2wd. thanks for the info!

The M5OD-R1 trans came in both 2WD and 4WD versions. The 4WD Mazda trans
will bolt right up to your existing transfer case and engine. Also, the A4LD and the M5OD-R1 are the exact same length. I swapped a 93 4WD R5OD-R1 into my 89 Ranger with A4LD and there were no modifications needed other than pedals and clutch assembly, etc. I would recommend installing the 10" clutch/flywheel/starter upgrade at the same time you do the trans.

thanx, do i need to change the computer or is the tranny not computer controlled on the 93 eec4 engine?

When I switched to the Mazda trans I kept the original auto computer and the truck runs great. You will have to reroute a couple wires that used to plug into the auto trans to the back up switch and clutch interlock switch. I ignored the wire used for torque converter lockup and it does not seem to affect anything.

You can also easily switch to the manual computer if you want to go that way.:icon_cheers:

okay, well i have everything lined up to do the swap besides the tranny, have one lined up just need the money, sounds good and i appreciate the info.:icon_cheers:

i didnt swap the computer on my 90 and i sometimes get check engine codes related to the trans. i had autozoo scan it a few years back and the code said it wasnt detecting shift solenoids. id say if you have access to the computer then swap it out.

Hey, quick question, will the manual transfer case from a 92 Ranger (the BW1354) bolt up to the M5OD-R1?
