A4ld to fm145 or 146, advice needed


I'm not sure about a pilot bearing adapter, but you will certainly need a pilot bearing.
 
if i remember right the fm145 came out of a '83-'87 and the fm146 came out of a '88-'91 and there is a difference, the 145 is a bit longer and the shifter is further back on the trans compared to the 146

You're half right, The FM146 is 3" longer overall than the FM145 but the FM145's shifter is further back. I know it sounds all backwards, but that the way it is. The FM145 is 23.5" from the front of the bell housing to the center of the shifter, and the FM146 should be a bit shorter from the front of the bell housing to the shifter. Maybe someone here can give you an exact number on the FM146.
