A4ld to 5r55e swap

Ok so the a4ld in my b2 bit the dust, I was wondering for those of you out who have experience with the never computer controlled transmitions if a swap Would be at all worth my while?

I don't have the experience in it but why not just swap in a fresh A4LD? Do you have one of these other transmissions sitting around or something?

The 5R55 series was completely computer controlled. It's a fully OBD-II compliant trans with codes and shift solenoids and everything.

My advice, if you have your heart set on getting away from the A4LD but want to keep a Bordeaux tranny, get a 98 4.0L, all it's wiring and the computer, and a 4R44/55.


I have gotten wind of a few people trying to make standalone controllers for the 4R/5R series transmissions.
