Hi all,
I plan on rebuilding my 1994 A4LD in a month or so and I was wondering if anybody knew where I could get a full set of snap rings for it. I have checked the web and I am having trouble finding complete sets. Maybe I will have to go to Ford for them. Any help would be great.
Thank You

i did my A4LD two months ago and when i did it i put a junior shift kit in and wow there is a huge difference in the shifting torque and everything definately worth the 60 bucks... but as of who to go through to get parts i had a local transmission shop get the kit for me

Thank you for your reply. I put the shift kit in also before the tranny finally crapped out. I was told elsewhere that the only snap ring I should have to replace is on the output shaft.

I have rebuilt 100's of A4LD's and never have had to replace no snap rings unless its in a drum that has been torn up.

Be very careful and pay attention to how unit comes apart..i know some builders who dont like doing these units..lol...the biggest thing to watch is the center support sealing rings, they tend to get caught in the direct drum which in turn cuts them and that will affect 3rd gear and reverse. Also the alignment of the pump and bellhousing is very important as if this isnt done right pump will the pump gears will break.

Good Luck.

thanks guys
I don't plan on seperating the bellhousing and pump so alignment won't be an issue. I have the ATSG manual and have been to another forum where there is a pretty extensive write up on the A4LD rebuild. I have pretty much memorized the manual and feel confident on the rebuild. I know I have to size the seals on the center support. And I plan on going real slow and careful with the project. Thank you again. I can use all the input I can get

Their is a guy in Sacramento that rents out tools so that you can rebuild your A4LD trans.
Brent Bolt maybe able to help you in contacting him?
