I posted in the wrong thread first time around lol. So this was my first solo rebuild on a 94 A4ld in a 4.0 2wd ranger. Transmissiom failed due to overheating, so i got the truck for dirt cheap with a new motor, anyway, transmission is in. I drove it last night, i have all gears, i can reverse and drive. however when driving it wont shift into the next gear, funny, it shifts but don't right!? There is a few things ill look at later, i believe i did overfill it, i thought it took 9-10 quarts but warm and idling i check the dipstick and its about an inch above the crosshatch. front seal seems to be leaking too, so ill probably have to pull it anyway to do that and check my busching and TQ again for anything i missed, unless its purging any excess fluid.

seal seems to only leak at park ,idling, ill also test that again today because it was dark last night, i took it for a 10 mile drive before i knew this stuff, tired as hell and realized my rpms were staying stuck and it wasnt shifting. Ill pull the modulator line to see if there is atf anywhere, i did smell something burning however this was my first time i could drive it and its straight piped with a massive exhaust leak from a header so i thought it was that. All bands are adjusted correctly, i double checked. Any pointers here asides what my common sense says? Overfill is messing with it or the modulator? There was no weird sounds or jerks. Im not in a rush to get it running properly, so im willing to pull it again, was still worth the drive last night, even if it was a short one.
