well my 1994 ranger has an al4d tranmission....i know that my vacum modulator is bad and am about to replace it tomarrow. But i have a few questions! What kind of rpm should i be running when crusing at about 65. Right now its at about 2850 according to my tach. Another question is how would i know if my overdrive bow is toast? last question how big is this rod that attaches to the modulator valve? And how do i know if anything is missing before i instal the new one, cause right now the valuve leaks to the vacum line and someone said something about a pin missing on a differnt web site.

Depends on what axle ratio / tire combo you have, 2800 is on the high range of normal. Easiest way to to tell is to pull the shifter into drive from O/D and see if the engine rpm rises about 500-800 rpms.

If the O/D band is broken, it won't shift into O/D.

If you missed installing the rod on the modulator, the trans will not shift. Period.

well it doesnt shit into over drive....but it does shit so i figure the modulator was put in correctly when i did it. Another thing what cause these tranmissions not to go from reverse to drive on the bat everytime. But if i burp the gas its go in gear....Was a problem that was befor the modulator. Also does it nessisalirly mean the belt broke, can it be the OD sensor thing. Oh going from od the drive the rmp doesnt change.

Sounds like you may not have lockup...Lockup will drop RPM about 800 to 1,000 Rpms at least it does in my 94 explorer

would lock up be the sensor control dodad.....how would i double check lockup function before i go replacing shit
