my tranny in my 87 ranger 2.9 liter 4x4 has gone i found an 88 a4ld to replace it but was told it would'nt work that i would have to "modify"the valve body for it to be compatible.could i not just take the valve body from the 87' a4ld and put it in the 88' a4ld is that all that i would need to do or is there anything else ?

They are different. Up to 87 had a single solenoid that operates TCC. 88- 94 have 2 solenoids. TCC and 3-4 shift.

Yes you can swap valve bodys .

i stand corrected:icon_twisted: well at least u got the right info good luck:icon_thumby:
