A4LD Extension Housing on 4R44E

I've got a RWD 98 Ranger with a 4r44E whose extension housing has about had it; the bushing is fried and the seal is shot. I have a pal who has a wrecked earlier RWD Ranger with an A4LD which seems to have an extension housing in great shape, and I was told I can have the part for free. Does anyone know if I can just take the complete extension housing from the A4LD and drop it on my 4R44E?
