a4ld are there trans codes for obd1 ?

Got a 92 4.0. did my 1st overhaul on it (after 3 other r/b) it shifts into od then the check engine light comes on and its done shifting into od.. can the code be checked , nothing comes up in the code check. turn the engine off and it starts all over again. checker is the cheap one beeps/light. 1-2 shift is the lift off then it shifts, replaced the governor no change. has adjustable mod, which way to turn? in or out? speed sensor? cut back in the vb? There are some smart people in this group any ideas?
