86 BII, 2.9 with A4LD. For 3-4 years it has not moved from a standstill when in O/D . Once it is moving it is fine till you stop and it has to be put into drive again to get it moving. Not a big problem since it very seldom goes on the highway and I just leave it in drive. Then the one ton went down and the van got totaled. This meant the BII got a lot more use and used on the highway a lot more. Well, one trip to work and I forgot to downshift to drive when I got off the highway. Put it back into Drive and it took off great but would not shift out of 1st. Put the shifter in 2nd and it up shifted fine. Put it into drive and it would not shift into 3rd. Stopped with it in drive, started off, It downshifted to 1st but would not shift to 2nd till I moved it to 2nd. Would not shift to 3rd at all. Checked fluid, adjusted linkage and changed modulator. Was just living with it, shifting it by hand from 1st to 2nd. Several weeks ago got in it without thinking and put it in drive and it ran like new. The next day it was back to not shifting. Got in to it today and missed 2nd put it into drive and it is running like new. I am guessing it is a solenoid or bad wire. A wire on the alternator shorted out about six months ago and melted the wiring under the hood. I am thinking I might have missed a bad wire that got hot and weak when I replaced the wiring and now it is making intermittant contact. I will check that in the morning. If it is a solenoid is there one for 1st-2nd shift and one for 2nd-3rd shift or does one control both shifts. *
