A trans Q

Transmission
Automatic
2010 with a 2.3 and an automatic.

It keeps slipping.

If I'm trying to get going in drive it won't go very well. I give it gas and the engine revs up but the truck barely moves. I put it in 2nd and the trans kicks in and I can move well. I have to get it to 40 mph and put the trans into drive and let off the gas to get it into drive or it will stay in 2nd.

Reverse doesn't work well either.

The trans fluid and differential fluid were replaced 1500 miles ago but I had the same problem once before.

Please help!!!

Thanks!!!

Chuck

Sounds like the OD sprag/one way clutch is failing. Vert common in these transmissions. Unfortunately transmission has to come out to repair. Good luck.

+1 ^^^

Needs a rebuild to fix the parts in question
You can shop for used 5R44E transmission from 2002 and up Ranger 2.3l(must be from 2.3l engine ONLY), but used is, well, used, so no history on what you are getting.
But there are accidents and insurance companies are quick to total Rangers so used transmissions are out there and can be OK, but a roll of the dice, there are some heavy parts in automatics, and a sudden stop, accident, can break stuff inside

Thanks...I will be prepared for the news.....It will make the blow easier...I will get back to you next week

Bad news...need a tranny...

I am going with one that's remanufactured at Autozone.. 3 year unlimited warranty..

As I drive 100,000 miles a year it's necessary and my Ranger only has 125,000 miles on it...

If there's any other tips you have let me know..

Thanks again...

thoroughly flush all lines and coolers. you don't want any left-over dirt in your new tranny. plus, dirt will void the warranty.
