I recently experimented with using engine oil... yes engine oil, to coat my black plastic bumpers.
I was tired of putting a spray on and then coming back 5 minutes later to the same looking grey, faded bumper.
I applied some engine oil, 5W-20 if ya want to be exact,
, and the black has decided to stay for a while.
I will let you guys know exactly how long it works (just did it Saturday), but I thought I'd give the tip to everyone, YOU DONT NEED TIRE SHINE, OR BLACK MAGIC, YOU ONLY NEED A 3 DOLLAR QUART OF OIL, THE CHEAPEST ONE ON THE SHELF!
And that quart will last you longer than the truck if you are only using it for coating bumpers, I use it for lubricating the door hinges and other metal contact areas as well.
If someone has already suggested this, sorry for a duplicate thread, but I found this out on my own. I had changed my oil and my hands got full of oil, i then opened my door handle and noticed the dark black mark left over. I desperately tried getting the oil stain off, then I though to myself, WAIT, THAT'S IT!
The only problem I would foresee is that dust may stick to my bumpers more easily, and sometimes oil can damage the plastic trim (I doubt dino oil will do anything tho). But try it out yourself, you'll be amazed unless you already know the trick.
