Thought I'd take a video of driving my B2, shifting without the clutch (the very first 1-2 shift I used the clutch, after that the clutch was only used for starting out). You never know when your clutch hydraulics could take a shit and you have to drive like this.

Yep, not too hard to learn either. I rarely use the clutch on my bike either.

Yeah as long as you can do it somewhat smoothly without riding the syncrhos it's not hard on the tranny, as you can tell though, I use the synchros a bit much on downshifts still. I don't care about this tranny though, main reason I shift without the clutch a lot now is because something is messed up with my clutch where it sticks if you release it faster than a casual shift which is HIGHLY annoying and everything is new except the fuckin clutch line.

been float shifting for years. and yes I do agree that it is skill that should be learned, I have been teachin' my little brother how to in his Heep.

I do it everyday, The more times I push in my clutch, the more clutch fluid I have to add throughout the week!

(My Slave is leaking like a siv and I don't feel like replacing it!)

Even if you know how to do it, it usually requires a user to be calm, and not in a rush........ And a 90 BII 2.9 is different than a 94 4.0 when it comes to clutchless shifting.

see now ive tried to learn that an i can do it smoothly but it takes me alot long to go from gear to gear. you do it so fast an smooth. like i want to make sure im doin to right if i do ok.

so say you driving in second at like 3500 rpm you pop it out of second then ease it in to third, then from third to fourth just get the engine up to like 3500 4000 rpm then pop it out of third then ease it into fourth?

i've done this is various cars, is there a trick to DOWNshifting into 1st with no clutch, or how about starting out from a stop? just crank and let it roll till it fires and then gas it?

so ive been trying to shift without a clutch and i can only do it from third to fourth i can do it from second to third, also how do you downshift without using the clutch?

To down shift you have to match your RPM to the speed of the trans/ truck speed, then you can catch the gear, in my Heep I'd just rev the motor and lightly push the stick into gear she'd just pop in when matched.

ok i can do the downshifting a bit. one more time to shift from second to third you pop it out of second gear at about 3500rpm then just ease it into third at like 2500rpm? and then just like that for every other gear? thanks for the help

RPMs vary with different transmissions and such. I don't know the RPMs of the shifts or anything like that, I just do it by ear. You could look up the ratios in your tranny (in the tech library) and figure out the % difference between gears and figure out the % drop in RPMs you will need for each gear at various RPMs.

yup, just like driving a big rig, except u get a few more gears to play with.
