I can now say without any doubt that e-3 plugs are not worth the package they come in.

I have a 03 Ranger Edge 3.0L 67k miles on it, bought it used about 6 months ago, the truck drove great for 2 months then started developing a rough idle and lack of power which turned out the be cloged cats (4 out of 5 were clogged up and yes it had 5 cats from the factory) anyways $1,500 later the truck was back to running fine.

Two days ago I decided to give it a tune up (new wires and plugs), I had seen the E-3 plugs advertised to add better fuel economy so i figgured I would give them a try. The truck ran geart afterwards sitting in the driveway so i decided to take it for a ride, drove about 5 miles came to a stop sign and the truck all of a sudden started running really bad and the engine light came on. There was an Auto Zone across the street so I stoped and had them pull the codes 1.P0305 2.P0306 3.P0316. So next day I take it to a local shop and had it hooked to a real diagnostic machine, it pulled the same codes. They then tested the coil, looked for air leaks, did a compression check (which was really good at 95 on each cyclinder), check camshaft and crankshaft position sensors which was all fine, they just wasn't able to track down the miss-fire. He did tell me that there was a software update and only a dealership cold load it at a cost of $89 bucks and there was no way of telling what version software it had even through the vin number, said the only way to be sure was to flash it with the latest version. He also said 3.0l had valve and head problems that was noted and i might be looking at $1400-$1700 head and valve job. But he suggested I take it to the dealer and have the software update applied and see if that made a difference. So on the way home I stoped and picked up some Motorcraft plugs threw them in and WA-LA, smooth as silk, missfires gone, check engine lights off, and all is good in the world now. Use Motorcraft when possible and dont believe all the E-3's product hype ! ! !

u sound like a fake cause i have never heard of 5 cats on a truck plus this is ur first post and ur dissin a plug without any real proof except u changed them and it fixed it for all we know u could be bad at changing plugs and u didnt put the wires on all the way, now if u are real, welcome to the forum. lol

There have been other reports of e3s not working out. And many more reports of motorcrafts working the best for these motors. I don't doubt the story at all.

Not doubting your story but I've ran the E3's on my 2002 4.0 with no issues for about 15k.

This has been debated time and time again. Fact is, about the only thing that seems to run good on an e3 plug is a lawn mower. Unless you get lucky.

I experimented with different plugs in my F-150, never tried the e3 plug because after reading about it, I didn't think it was worth trying (if I had the time and money to waste I might actually try it just to prove a point though). I started with some Accel coppers with some supposed power groove thing. Truck ran great, but as with most coppers, around 15k miles it didn't seem to be running quite as good. Thought about pulling them, cleaning them, and re-gapping but I was short on time so I threw some Autolite coppers in. Although they worked, I was not overly happy with them on the whole so I got some Autolite double platinums and threw them in there. Now that made a difference - it ran noticeably better than the coppers with only around 4k miles on them.

I have a 99 ranger with a 3.0. I've ran so many different plugs thought that thing and honestly I have to say I feel that motor craft seems to work beat with just about any ford out there. Not sure why and I don't have any ideas other than maybe ford likes to use there own stuff before after market parts. But long story short as long as its a ford motor in your truck I would stick with motor craft if you can help it... That's my 2cents

Pse boys.... Pse....

Duh.

No, at most it had 3, one on each branch of the Y-pipe, and possibly a twin bed after that. What you mistake for a 5th may well have been a muffler.

DO'H!

which was really good at 95 on each cylinder

No, actually that's pretty crappy since 90 is the MINIMUM needed for a cylinder to fire. Thanks for playing though.

Given what all the shop did, thought might be wrong and actually proved what was wrong... I wouldn't doubt if they didn't know how to check compression either.

No bro it had 5 , 2 on driver side, 1 on passenger side befor Y-pipe and then a twin. I know the muffler was 2 feet from the end of the tail pipe so that was not counted. Even the muffler shop said they had never seen 1 with 5 cats, maybe it was a Califorina Emmisions System ??? It now has 4, one on each side befor y joint and a twin set after.

And to: 509 lifted, lol i was probly changing plugs when you were still in a diaper, just saying. Anyways thanks for the welcome !

u might have been but even i knew 95 was crap compression, hell the jet ski's i worked on for a living had to have 110 so y would a ranger have less

I've never had good luck with any of those fancy plugs... I'll stick to OEM Motorcraft stuff. period.

my truck has 5 cats...CA emissions...i have thoroughly punched out one...and couple of days after doing so...it passed a CA smog test...stoked.

well, my truck has a muffler...down at the end of the pipe where the "Y" comes together...but before that...there are 5 catalytic converters. California emissions laws require some pretty f%$#ed up equipment...especially throughout the turn of the millennium:annoyed:....
