A quad and a harley

rent a uhaul trailer. thats the safest option.

I know you said you don't want to, but come on, think about it....its a Ranger. Harleys are big and heavy, even the 883, and quads are big too, its a RANGER...just get a small trailer and be done with it.

I'm going to be adding airbags before I leave. So the weight isn't an issue to me. I was thinking of making some kind of extension with some 2" square tubing. Does anyone have any thoughts?

You didn't mention what Harley you have, but trying to do any kind of bed extension on a bike that would weigh anywhere between 600-900 pounds ..... no, please, don't.

If it was just the bike and you needed it so you didn't have weight on the tailgate (because it WOULD need to be down) then that's one thing, but you're trying to cram an elephant into a cracker jack box here. All the optimism in the world ain't gonna help you buddy.

IF you could live with it the ONLY way I see this happening is doing a flat bed conversion on the rear. The bike goes sideways closest to the cab, the quad behind that. Even then i'd imagine the wheels of the bike would stick out past the sides of the truck.

I agree with ZMan you should just rent a trailer, but if your gonna do it. It'd be sweet to mount up some trailer brake/signal lights and wire them up to plug into your trailer plug connection. I'm not sure about when a flag is required but I'm sure you need something if it's gonna be as long as it'll have to be and I like the idea of wiring in lights, you could prolly do that for $20

Ya just get the trailer and be done with it. Last thing you want is to be stranded in the middle of a trip with your harley falling off and sitting on the side of the road in peices and you stuck there with no way to get it away. Be smart and be safe and just get a small trailer. A little 4x8 would be plenty. Quad on the bed and bike on the trailer. Thats the safest way to do it.

Do you guys know of anywhere to rent a trailer besides uhaul? I would really prefer not to get a single axle trailer and they want 500 their smallest dual axle.

I hate single axle trailers. HATE.

Have you thought of a hitch ramp for you harley? Basically the setup fits into your hitch and has a front & rear tire latch attached to a c channel, it sits parallel to your bed. I have used one in the past for my bmw 1200gs adventure except it was attached to my F-350. Sorry I dont have any pics.

Hey where in Phx are you moving?

?

i seen sum guy had two wheels of the quad on the bed cap and two full size dirt bikes in the bed...might work for you .good luck bud...

time to build a flat bed, hmm, what about puting the bike across the bed rails, up as close to cab so the front and rear tires are on the rails, (have to build a holder of some type.
and the atv down in the bed

like this, but have the bike up by the cab window and atv in bed

What's the matter with a single axle trailer?

We've gotten two of those folding $300 Harbor Freight trailers. You bolt them together and take the Cert. of Origin down to the DMV and they give you a title. Then you put the bike in the bed and the quad on the trailer. These things stand up out of the way when you don't need them. Or you can take it back apart and put it under your bed until next time.

I wouldn't hesitate to put the back wheel of the bike on the tailgate. It's meant to hold weight.

Incidently, 5' is how far something is allowed to stick out behind the vehicle.

I know what your talking about. I've seen them for dirtbikes. Would it be far enough away from the bumper and be able to hold a harley? It's a 98 sporty. So it's over 500lbs.

Everyone I've ever towed has never tracked straight and bounces all over the place.

I'd def. say go with a trailer, better safe than sorry.

Put your Harley in the bed with tailgate down. Rent a tow dolly one way. Put the quad with front wheels on tailgate and rear wheels on dolly. Do not inhibit the turning of front wheels. This MAY work:icon_confused:
