Newbie here. I am trying to determine which front differential I have. My Ranger is 2003 supercab 4WD (66K) and appears to be leaking. I want study up before going into the stealership for repairs. Thanks

And yes, my profile is coming.

Should be the Dana 35 IFS. Im not aware of any front ends in these truck in that year.

Leaky D35

it is indeed a dana 35.

what exactly are you trying to learn about it?

There appears to be a leak around the seal of the differential where the transfer case drive shaft connects. I also think I'm hearing clunks periodically. I probably will go into the dealer, Yuck! or look for a good indy.

I am trying to determine how big a project this is going to be. How much green will it cost me to get it done.

the seal your referring to is called a front pinion seal. leaks are not uncommon. its not a huge job to do...i wouldnt say more than 2 hours at the very most.

a clunk is less likely to be gears than it is to be something with the electric transfer case.

Thanks for that info Wicked Sludge. The clunk noise seems to be coming from the front left and is intermittent. I has happened after only driving a 1/4 mile. I started noticing the noise today as I was driving the dirt roads on the ranch.

The clunk sounds like the rear driveshaft slip spline is dry and needs to be greased up.
