Hi, new to the fourms and had a few questions. I own a 95 extended cab ranger with a 4.0 auto 4x4 with 161k. The motor has a bad rod knock I think and the transmission has a problem going into reverse. The body is in great shape but the running gear and frame is pretty rusted.

I found a 96 explorer that was introduced to a tree. It's pretty smacked up but the motor and tranny are fine. Not sure about the frame yet.

Now for my questions.
First is would the running gear from the explorer swap into my ranger without to much trouble?
Second is would it be possible to swap the body from the ranger over to the explorer frame??
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and answer my questions.

I'd say yes..the engine and transmission will bolt right into place. Wiring should match up too, or be close. As for the ranger body on the explorer frame, no, or at least without lots of work, and fab...but no. It would be alot easier to swap the engine into the Ranger. Also while you have the "Exploder", you may want to get the 8.8 out of it. It has disc brakes, and 31 spline axles. You'd also want to grab the mastercylinder too. You'll also have to flip the sring perches, and shock mounts, but some say it's well worth it. My 0.02's. :icon_thumby:

It has disc brakes,

no it doesnt, but it does have some bigger drums than the ranger im pretty sure. i would certainly say its worth the swap assuming gear ratios are the same

Yes it does, 1995 and newer Explorers all came standard with rear disc brakes. 1991-94 Explorers have drums.
