A dying squirrel?

Ok today my truck started making a sound like a dying squirrel. Its high pitched and it is coming from the back of my motor...dont know where exactally. It goes away after a complete warm-up but i can still hear it slightly around idle every now and then. Its not a tick so im 99% sure its not a valve but i could be wrong.

At first i thought it was my serpintine belt but its sunny and 70 out and it only makes sounds on rainy days. So now im waiting to cool the motor down so i can take a video of the engine at start up so you can hear what i mean.

Any idea's would be great. 97 3.0l 5 speed.
 
i think you might be right about the serpentine belt is it a new belt i had around the same sound was my belt (brand new was just breaking it in)
 
Could be the alt bearings, ac compressor, tensioner, etc...Use a long screwdriver and put one end on the alt and the other in your ear and listen to the alt and the ac compressor.
 
Well i took the belt off to figure out if it was a bearing or anything and the noise is still being made so i have ruled out that it is not any accessory. Unfortunatly :dunno:
 
Sounds like it could be the cam synchronizer. If it is, that is a BIG deal and needs to be fixed ASAP lest you lose oil pressure when it lets go. Lack of oil pressure = toasted engine.
 
ok so i have engine oil pressure atleast the gauge says i do and i do have a cam syncro but my check engine light isnt on. so im totally baffeled im gonna go out in about 10 mins and start it up and record the sound it makes for you guys.
 
You do have a camshaft syncro? If you do then i'm almost 100% positive that that's what you're hearing. I didn't realize 97's had them also.:icon_twisted:

I believe everything 95 and after have a cam syncro.
 
If it is the syncro, you can get a kit from napa with a new shaft/sensor, and the alignment tool for cheaper than the shaft/sensor by itself.
 
yeah mine sounded nothing like that so i dont think its the serpentine belt i dont think it would be the tensioner either
 
Its not anything with the belt i have run the truck without the belt and the noise is still there. I also know its not a trans noise since i have a manual and can play between gears and having nothing moving by pushing the clutch in.

So, therefore i know its coming from my motor, mostlikely inside of it. Does anyone have any insite.

I was reading up on the cam sensor and found that some people have said that it did squeal before it finally gave way. Is there anyway of checking that?
 
how does the clutch work? could be a throwout bearing possibly?
 
im ruling it out since the throw out bearing is not engaged when the clutch is not pressed. If anything i would say the pilot bearing before the throw out bearing. there are about 169,000miles on the truck here is parts and milages of replacement.
here is a list of new parts:
Clutch, Slave cylinder, pilot bearing, pressure plate-148,000
Alternator-155,000
Serpentine Belt, Idler pully, Tensioner pully-160,000
DPFE-161,000
Oil Pan & gasket-163,000
