Hey guys, looking to buy a good rbv but i know nothing about buying out of province. I understand i will need a safety. The reason i am thinking out of province is that around here there doesnt seem to be any good trucks around here to buy, and rust. I found a nice lifted '91 explorer in manitoba for 2500, but i need to know if its even worth doing with the safety and everything?

First, what is the general price to go thru the safety assuming i dont need to modify anything?

Will there be any modifications needed from just going from Manitoba to Saskatchewan? You think because its so old, it will need much to get it re-safetied again?

And, i have heard things earlier about there being lift laws here... The truck is lifted 6" on 33" tires. Fail? lol

Overall, im thinking it wont be a good idea to buy out of province or from the US because of all the hassle getting it and then doing the safety. But i'd love to hope i could buy this truck and spend only a few hundred more to get the safety done and be on my way with another rbv again lol :P I tried googling, but i couldnt find any good info surprisingly enough. I just found stuff about how to go thru the process, not what is needed or costs lol.

Thanks guys

^^^what he said.....do your own research, Bro. You live there....you have internet access...make a phone call...jeesh...do you want us to tuck you in at night as well....lol

If you tuck him in you gotta sing the lullaby too, I'll warm up the bottle.:D

Yes, please. :icon_twisted:

Lol i was asking if anyone had experience with this. I have heard horror stories about people having to replace EVERYTHING to get it safetied, but also a few that say it was pretty straight forward. I've never dealt with it, i looked it up and didnt find anything. Thought maybe someone on here has done something similar, as someone likely has.

Such as how SGI doesnt say anything specific about having lift kits on the vehicle and if that will be deemed "unfit"

In my experience the shops are out for money. So if they can fail it, they will, so that you pay for them to fix it. I had my '86 Ranger salvage safety-ed , cost C$360.00 plus ~ C$2000.00 in parts. Out of that C$2000.00 maybe 1/2 was needed in my opinion. My own labor. The truck is rust free but it was a good thing the truck was given to me for free. For an out of province I think the inspection cost is ~C125.00.
Good luck

Thanks dude. Its a nice truck, but idk if i should take the risk of them wanting everything redone better than new lol :P

Anyone know anything about "Lift laws" here or if i will run into problems considering the truck would be lifted and have bigger than stock sized tires? lol

lfit laws vary from state to state, cant imagine what they would be in canada. stop by a police station, if they can ticket you for something then they should be able to tell you whats "legal'

Lol theres a difference between being illegal and them actually doing soemthing. If there is a lift law here, i've never heard of anyone being ticketed or having to remove their lift lol. Not even the big deisel rig trucks :P But

If you get a vehicle from out of province you have to do a mechanical safety. I have done it on three vehicles now (my 96 ranger, 2001 ranger, and 1990 300zx). The charge for the inspection is usually one hour at whatever your shop of choices rate is. So say $100 ish for the inspection. Then they will tell you what needs to be done, you have 30 days to get it done without having to get it reinspected. You can do it yourself if you want (I recently did that on my 2001 Ranger, cost me about 350 in parts, free labour) or you can get them to do it ($1500 on my 1996 Ranger, back when I was a newb and didn't know any better).

Expense also depends on what needs to be done, my 1996 needed brakes bearings windshield etc. My 300ZX only needed little things so I got the shop to do it and it came out to like $250. So it really depends on the vehicle condition.

Like I said you have thirty days, so if you get it inspected, fix the stuff, and come back 40 days later you will have to get it reinspected (and pay for it again). They will still inspect it again if you bring it back after 30 days but it won't cost you.

In terms of lift laws I am not sure. I heard 35 inch max tires once...and I am unsure of the bumper height laws. You always see massive trucks rolling around tho. I am not sure about getting it inspected tho. General rule is to get it safetied AND THEN start modding it. Thats what I did with my 1996 haha

If I were you, I would wait to find something in Sask. Saves you the hassle/nasty surprises
