alright guys im helping my buddy put on a 6" lift for his 91 explorer the lift is used and was previously on a ranger so the rear lift blocks wont work on his explorer (unless we flip the rear perches)...is there any other easier way to get 6" of rear lift such as shackles? and i know i could buy some new leafs but they r expensive..what do you explorer guys do for 6" of rear lift?? also with the front brakes lines whats the easiest way and cheapest way to extend them? just buy new steel ones or do they make extender kits? let me know thanks guys!

The easiest and cheapest way is to flip the spring perches to the top of the axle tubes. That will give you about 5.5" of lift and make the truck sit level.

yeah that is what i figured would be the cheapest...hmmm just seems like a lot of work lol :icon_surprised:

Really shouldn't be to much work, Just cut the perches off with a cut off wheel or torch if you get new perch's then re-weld on the new ones and throw on a new brake line and away ya go. I'd actually say the brake line could be more work if the fitting is rusty

It actually isn't even required to remove the old perches, just weld new ones on top (the old ones won't be in the way on an Explorer). Of course removing the old ones would have some aesthetic benefits though.

Brake hoses are something you don't want to cheap out or take shortcuts on though. Skyjacker makes a pretty nice set of extended stainless braided hoses that carry a DOT stamp on them. There are also some options available for hoses in the Tech Library here.

hey im just going to flip the perches for him...i have torches and all..and the article in the tech library looks like the way to go for the brakes lines since they are cheap and local...thanks guys!

Sounds like you have it all worked out. Myself, I did the flip on mine. I used the 8.8 simple swap kit from Ruffstuff. Also, the idea of leaving the original perches on is valid. While installing, they give you a decent guideline on centering your axle. Not exact... but you're real close to being where is should be. Only thing to really worry about is your pinion angle.
