I just finished a 5 speed swap today. I started Friday afternoon. I did it on my 1994 4.0 extended cab 2x4. It ended up being a lot bigger job than what I thought. Overall it was not that bad, but having to find everything I didn't know I was missing was the fun part. I ended up using a low mileage 1999 explorer trans. I was able to swap the tail housings and worm gears quite easily. Some of the setbacks were realizing the automatic yoke would not work, swapping the trans without removing the exhaust, finding the correct shifter set up (it worked ok with a ranger shifter, but had some issues with it), and many other minor things. If anyone has questions about this swap feel free to ask and I can elaborate on things.

I had a similar experience, I had a '83 Ranger with a 2.0 and a 4 speed, the 2.0 had so much back pressure it was forcing out the oil....

We found a '84 BII with a 2.8 and a 5 speed. It was tricky as we only snatched the motor and tranny out of that BII, we did our OWN Duraspark conversion(before we knew such a thing existed) We had to convert from a External slave cylinder to a internal one(a downgrade) and relocate the transmission crossmember. I would do it again.

Yeah, I had about as much fun with my FM to M5 swap. And I thought it was going to be more along the lines of a clutch job where a different trans and drive shaft went back in. It was all the little things that I didn't know I needed until I needed them.

Good work getting her going though.
