A/C Evaporator $

Morning Folks:

Just a quick question as to why the evaporator costs so much more than a compressor? Evaporator $ 475.00
Compressor $ 278.10

These are dealer prices here in Salt Lake City.

Is that installed and recharged? If so that would be about right for the job. Getting them dashes out is a big deal and very time consuming.

You don't need to remove the dash to replace an evaporator on a Ranger.

It's a dealer, of course it's going to be outrageously overpriced. Get one at Napa or other parts store. An evaporator will only cost about $120. The compressor however is actually pretty reasonably priced, for a brand new one. Wherever you decide to get the compressor, make sure you get a BRAND NEW (NOT remanufactured) one. Or you can do what I did and get a used one from a junkyard.

As per your advice, I just checked with the dealer and he told me it was,"NEW"

Hi:

I picked up the new compressor Friday and my mechanic installed it on Sat. When he got into the system he found out the former owner had almost completely filled the system with stop-leak! He flushed out the system,charged it up and now in the coldest setting it will drive you out. Good to have the A/C back. Summer is comming ? and it sure will feel a lot better crossing the desert every week.
