i have a 94 ranger when i have my a/c switch off and blower off the compressor still cycles every so often does any one have any idea how i can test the electrical or may even know how to fix the problem?

there's a low pressure switch that keeps the compressor from running in too little suction pressure. The compressor will cycle on and off as the switch opens and closes.

A small amount of cycling, especially when there isn't much load on the system (relatively cool outside air) is normal, but if it's 90 outside and it's cycling on and off a lot you're probably low on refrigerant.

Compressor is able to run in any selector position except Off and Vent.

It's designed that way so your compressor gets used even in the winter, so its seals and such don't dry out and fail.

It also dehumidifies the air, eliminating window condensation (fogging).

So, i suspect your symptom is "normal operation"

I can send you 1993 schematics if you really want them. Should be very similar or the same as 94. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you what I've got in .pdf format. Might be after the long weekend though, depends what I've got in Hotmail.
