a/c compressor

maybe this belongs here, maybe not. what type of compressor are in our trucks? I know they are scroll, but are they hermetic? only reason i'm asking is hermetic compressors used the refrigerant to cool them and my coolant is totally gonzo, I had an accident and took the line off the compressor and whooosh i got hit in the face with r134. so the system is completely empty, but my question is, will the compressor burn up now since it has no juice flowing through it?

it just dawned on me that the compressor will not kick on due to low pressure, which in my case, I have no pressure, so i would imagine its fine and wont require me to remove and put a non a/c belt on. eh, correct me if i'm wrong.

You should be ok,compressor won't run without adequate pressure to close lp switch.The compressor is semi-hermetic.One should wear Face shield and gloves when working on a/c equipment due to possibility of sudden loss of refrigerant,which can cause burns.Hardly anyone does though.

Unplug the compressor clutch and the compressor itself has no moving parts.

It's probably unnecessary to do anything at all, since it should never get engaged with an empty system (low-pressure switch cuts it off).

But do get it fixed as soon as is reasonable, to prevent corrosion.

I was thinking about tearing the entire system out of the engine bay and throwing a snorkel throw the firewall where the evaporator is now. Would this be a task, or pretty basic considering its already empty? I woudnt plan on reusing it either prob just discarding of it properly.

The only part that is an issue is the refrigerant. The rest is really not a big deal and can be recycled (it's mostly aluminum with some steel parts).

But your defogger isn't going to work nearly as well with a disabled A/C. It's more important than you think, and kind of a shame to scrap considering all it needs is two $7 cans of R-134a, a bit of oil, and some time on a vacuum pump.

That and you'd have to re-route the belt drive system.

All I need is a non ac belt for 7 bucks. I already knew about the a/c being used for the defrogger, but it wont be that bad will it?

Umm, might want to price a serpentine belt. They cost substantially more than $7.

Dam MAF sensor, its in such a shitty place to make a snorkel. Since its gonna be a woods warrior, could I toss it or its better if i kept it? I ran with it uplugged before, but it was a bear to pull out but otherwise ran fine,,,, I think.
