Is there a better- more efficent- uses less hp- compressor that is available on the market for my '90 Ranger 2.9?

AC shouldn't be sucking back a lot of gas unless you are sitting in stop-and-go traffic all the time.

Are you sure the compressor you have is in good working order?

A/C

Yes the compressor, and the whole system, works great. I converted it about 5 years ago and since, nothing but cold air. I really was trying to find out if there is a compressor on the market now that uses less HP. I've heard these things use 6-8 HP and with the little 2.9 thats significant. But we can't have our cake and eat it too...- WB

I haven't noticed the A/C robbing an excessive amount of power from my 2.9L... Sounds like you could have some other issue going on with your engine or the A/C.

(and no I'm not aware of there being any "high efficiency" replacement compressors)

I haven't found any high efficiency compressors for the 2.9 either.

I do know what you mean though. My A/C is working correctly, and the engine is fairly fesh, beefed up, but you can def feel the difference when the A/C is on.

The truck is a 1990 but the engine was rebuilt recently and has just cracked 1000 miles, compression is great on all cylinders. Anyone tried Redtek as a refridgent? They claim more efficiency (less drag) using their product.- WB

To hell with that damn power-stealing compressor... I just open a window >.>

It gets stupid-hot here in the summer too. I remember one summer a few years back, it was 44c for a week straight, while I was outside building a barn. That was absolutely brutal. (thats over 110f)

Dont get me wrong, I understand the joys of AC, I just can't afford anything good enough to have working AC so its just something else taking up space under my hood...

Cheers to this. I run the AC to get the cab cooled off a bit and get through town. As soon as I get over the bridge and past the last light the AC goes off and the window goes down.

Wing windows? lol

Love wing windows. If you pull the seat forward all the way they direct the air right at your crotch.
