Mechanic sez the fuel pump is shot & the pump alone is over $300. Gonna drop the tank & do it myself as it's a farm truck & I found a new pump on e-bay for $80.

Question is... does it have 2 fuel pumps (hi & lo pressure) or is there only the pump in the tank to be concerned with ? Any help appreciated.

It would probably be easier to pull the bed than drop the tank. Thats what I did on my 97'. I have a thread on here just look up 97 GMC. I'm not sure how disimilar they are, I know they changed body styles in 99 so it may not be even close. I don't know why it would have two pumps unless it's got dual tanks or something aftermarket. Give us some more details(engine, 1500?, 2500? etc.) and somebody who has done one may be able to help more.

Reason I ask is... just changed a tank & pump in an old Ranger. It has a low pressure pump in the tank & a high pressure pump on the frame rail. A couple of bolts & the tank drops. Then you can get to the filler neck, fuel lines & unplug the connector & the old parts are out.

The Silverado is similar only newer (less rust) but all the sites I've searched list only a pump in the tank. There are variations (2 wire connector & 3 wire connector) but it appears there is only the pump in the tank to replace. Don't have a Haynes manual for the Chevy so I thought I might find something here on the forum.

Thanks for responding ! As for the e-bay pump... it's new (probably Chinese) but might last as long as the old farm truck & will probably save me around $500 in parts & labor.
