I have a 1999 ford ranger supercab xlt with the flare side bed and the 4.0 ohv pushrod engine. I broke an oil ring and decidex to just rebuild the motor and am looking for some tips and simple tweaks I can do while I have the motor out and apart to get some more power? After the rebuild I plan on a 2 inch lift and 33 in tires. Any info would be appreciate . :icon_hornsup:

Well you could do a stroker kit and/or a cam, and when the engine is apart is the time to do those, but you don't do simple cheap things to the guts of an engine to make lots more power. You could get the heads decked a bit to make more compression, but you don't get a ton of power that way.

As for tips, make sure to fully compress and then soak the lifters, replace cam bearings, and I would do the pushrods and rocker arms too.

With the cost and effort to gain a little hp it would be cheeper to do a v8 swap the stroker kit alone costs more than what i have into my swap but to be different stroker it and put a blower or turbo
