Having a problem tracking down a battery draining circuit. Battery is draining with ignition off. I put a light between the negative battery post and the negative lead. I pulled the #1 50A Maxi fuse from the main box and the light dimmed considerably. I know that's the Fuse Panel Junction fuse but going into the interior panel and pulling each fuse one at a time did not have any affect on the light. I also pulled every connector one at a time under the hood and no effect. The batter is only a few months old, takes and holds a charge on its own well. This issue only came up about a week ago. What am I missing?? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If it is draining over night try disconnecting the alternator. If the magnet isn't shutting down that will kill the battery in a hurry.

A bad voltage regulator (inside alt.) can cause it to drain the battery. I don't know how to test it on vehicle; but, if you disconnect it and the battery stays charged it probably is your problem. I would probably pull it and have it tested.

had the same problem with an old 89 ranger. the previous owner had taken the radio out thinking it was the drain. We finally figured out it was the combination of a bad alternator and a bad battery cable.

Replaced the alternator and thought it was fixed but here it is a week later and still draining. Put a light between the negative batt post and negative cable, pulled the 50A maxi fuse (main fuse panel junction) and the light goes dim but pulling any other fuse or relay had no effect. :annoyed:

Did you disconnect the B+ cable from the alternater?

just replaced alternator last week... brand new.
