99 ranger rear main seal

do u have to pull the trans t replace the rear main seal. what is the easiest way to do this. heard to pull the motor. 6cyl auto 4x4 thanks
 
It's a one piece seal and you ABSOLUTELY must separate the engine from the transmission to remove it.

The operation is easier with the engine out (remove the oil pan and rearmost main bearing cap), but it's less work and requires less equipment to take the transmission out.

If your oil pan is leaking or any core plugs are questionable, that's enough reason to remove the engine right there.

it'll take ya a half a day to pull the motor if ya got a friend to help and maybe an hour [ if you're real slow] to put the seal in. like MAKG said, get a Haynes manual, for most things it will be your bestest friend
