I recently tried to replace fuel filter in my 4.0 only to findout 206k miles of rust was more then I was prepared for. I got one side of fuel filter off but couldn't get other side off. So I reconnected it till I had more time. Three house down lives this basically a guy we joke about doing backyard "tuneups". My brother in law was trying to get other side off when he couldn't he asked the guy if he could. I didn't know this or I'd of been like f no. So the guy put a screw driver in fuel line and tried to force it... If he wasn't so old... I was watching my son or I'd of kicked him. So before that I had 3/4 of a tank. I drove 13 miles to gym 13 back, my truck sat all day while I took my time putting on shocks and I started it for a teat drive... Took 3-4 secs to tuen over and start, my trucks old but it starts right away normally. And my tank read right on e line... I'm so mad... I can't find any write ups on fuel line replacement and I don't wanna drive truck when my fuel has been draining on my frame as i drove. It doesn't leak in driveway so I'm hoping someone could point me into the right direction as far as parts to replace the line from fuel tank to filter. Maybe someone knows a specific repair kit on a site? I just can't drive till this is replaced, il just dump all the gas I put in it... And a shop would love to stick a finger in my a** and a fist in my wallet. Sry for writing such a long thing I just wanted to be specific and show why you don't let someone else touch your truck that does tuneups on civics...

napa sells replacement fittings. im guessing one of them is broken and needs replaced. they just press in, its a PITA but you dont need clamps or anything.

this is assuming your truck has plastic lines and the clip-style connectors.

No my truck has steel braided lines and steel or w.e metal connector. I'm not even talkin to the kid who did it cause I wanna punch em in his face. Advance auto is by me and sells a repair kit. 5/16 by 18 or 30 inches. But it's a braided line itll be a b****.

I have a 99 also...the leak is at the fitting for the fuel filter right? just go get a kit that has a hose that you connect to the existing line.like this http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/1/...rman-oe-solutions-part-800-063.html......your fuel line can not be braided the whole way?

if the fittings are anything like the ones on the 4.0l sohc our 05 sport trac has, they are the metal bell shaped connectors, very similar to the style that connects the fuel lines on the engine to the fuel lines on the frame. the trick to these is to soak them with penetrating oil and then using a METAL disconnect tool (the plastic ones dont seem to be strong enough) you should be able to disconnect the filter from the line. ive gotten one side apart before, but was unable to get the other, so i just cut the filter loose (as close to the body of the filter as possible) and then used a small pocket screwdriver to work the retaining clip loose. by the sounds of it either the o-rings inside the fuel line fitting are damaged or the metal retaining clip is bent out of shape from its screwdriver encounter.
you said it doesnt leave puddles of gas when parked, but if you turn the key forward until the fuel pump turns on does it spray out by the filter? you also said it doesnt start as easily as it did before, which sounds like the fuel line leak has allowed the gas to drain back from the engine and fuel pump (only from the fittings on top of the pump) and then is dripping out of the fitting once the truck is turned off. when you start it you have to keep cranking until the fuel pump can get the lines filled back up all the way to the enigne before it will start up.
now being that it is a braided hose that goes to solid line farther back, you may be able to cut it where it turns to solid line, and then replace the remainder of the line (the part that was braided) with solid line also. by doing this you are going to have to change the fuel filter by removing the side with the flexible line first, then remove the other end since it would be coupled to the ridgid line. or you could go to the junk yard and see if you can have them lift one up so you can get that whole line, all the way back to the tank? but youll still need a good metal disconnect set
